  • Website to become subscription-based service

    Beginning Wednesday, March 23, The Spencer Magnet’s website, www.spencermagnet.com, will become a subscription-based service.
    Anyone with a subscription to the newspaper will have access to all of the news and features that appear in each week’s print product, along with a number of online-only features including videos, slideshows and more.
    A digital PDF version of the newspaper will also be available online.

    A wonderful season came to a disappointing end Tuesday night for the Spencer County Bears as they fell to Oldham County 70-50 in the finals of the Eighth Region Tournament in New Castle.

  • ‘Gremlins’ in the courthouse?

    The Spencer County Courthouse has seen its share of uninvited guests recently — at least that’s what the empty pizza boxes found after hours would suggest.
    During Monday morning’s fiscal court meeting, Judge-Executive Bill Karrer told magistrates about the apparent after hours guests.
    “It seems like we have gremlins in our courthouse,” Karrer said.
    Karrer said it seems like a group of teenagers might be sneaking into the courthouse just before it closes and having a party of sorts.

  • Contract extension passes on split vote

    When Superintendent Chuck Adams took the helm as the leader of Spencer County Schools almost four years ago, he said improving the struggling district was a daunting challenge.
    “It’s been absolutely overwhelming at times. When you come in to a divisive situation, your first order of business is to reassemble a vision and direction, and to bring in as many supporters as you can,” said Adams, who was recently awarded a contract extension by the Spencer County Board of Education.

  • Bears fall to Oldham County

    Spencer County's dream season came to an end Tuesday night as the Bears fell to the Oldham County Colonels by a final score of 70-50 in the championship game of the Eighth Region tournament.

    The Spencer County High School Bears basketball team got a big send-off Tuesday evening.

    The Bears play Oldham County for the Eighth Region championship tonight at 7.

  • Bears beat North Oldham, to play for region title Tuesday

    The Spencer County High School boys' basketball team defeated North Oldham 60-52 on Monday night and will play for the Region 8 title on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

    The Bears will face Oldham County, who defeated Henry County on Monday night by a score of 34-32.

    The Region 8 tournament is being played at Henry County High School.

  • One person airlifted from accident on Hwy. 48

    Highway 48, west of Lilly Pike, was closed part of Friday afternoon after what appeared to be a one-vehicle accident.

    One person was airlifted from the scene around 3 p.m. That person's identity and other details about the accident were not immediately available.

    The Taylorsville-Spencer County Fire District, the Spencer County Sheriff's Department and the Spencer County EMS were among those responding.

    The dream season for the Spencer County Bears moves forward following a 50-46 victory over Gallatin County in the first round of the Eighth Region Tournament in New Castle on Thursday night.
