  • County increases EDA’s yearly funding by $2,000

    Fiscal court approved a yearly contribution of $30,000 to the Spencer County-Taylorsville Economic Development Authority (EDA) to match the amount approved by Taylorsville City Commission.

    Magistrates had originally passed a budget containing $28,000 to be allocated to EDA. As the city and county government work to reach a new interlocal agreement with the economic development office, both agreed to fund the same amount.

    Old Gospel Barn Special Singing 

    The Old Gospel Barn, located at 11286 Louisville Road (Hwy 31E), Cox's Creek, will be having a gospel sing Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Performances will be by the Sexton family of Munsfordville, the Cumbos, and more.  Admission is free. Plan to come and bring your family and friends.

  • PHOTO: Welcome back from 4-H camp

    Spencer County 4-H went to 4-H camp July 6-10.  Pictured are some of the campers, teens, camp staff, and most of the adults that attended Lake Cumberland 4-H Camp with Spencer County.   We had a total of 91 adults, teens and campers from Spencer County to attend.  A great week was had by all.  Spencer County will be going to camp in 2010, so if you are interested, please contact the Extension Office for additional information next spring.

  • PHOTO: Holy Grail! It’s a Monty Python play

    Twenty high school and college-bound students from Spencer County will perform “Monty Python and The Holy Grail.” The drama was organized by Shelby Steege, the middle school drama teacher. Here, Christian Sibinski and Erik Kolehmainen rehearse a scene on Monday afternoon. Performances will be held Thursday and Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Spencer County Middle School auditorium. Admission is $2.

  • U name it, u win it

    The Regional Prevention Center of Seven Counties Services, Inc. seeks 12-17 yr olds to submit a name and logo for an upcoming media contest to prevent underage drinking.

    There will be one winner for each category (logo and name). Entries must be in digital format and can be submitted in Microsoft Word, Publisher, jpeg and mailed submissions must be on CD, SD or USB thumbdrive. Winners receive choice of prizes: IPOD Shuffle, Portable DVD or $100 cash.

  • Fair fun continues Tuesday

    Last weekend marked the kick-off to the 2009 Spencer County Fair with an array of events including horse pulls, tractor pulls, a talent show and a live concert by Spencer County native J.D. Shelburne.

    Dwight Martin, president of the Fair Board said that although weather was nice over the weekend, turnout was a little lower than he had hoped for. The horse pull brought in the largest attendance.

    “Around 600 people came out on Friday night and about 500 on Saturday,” Martin said.

  • Local student attends the National Young Scholars Program

    This summer, Tamara Humphrey, of Taylorsville, participated in the National Young Scholars Program (NYSP), a program for high-achieving elementary school students.  Held at the University Plaza Conference Center in  DaKalb, IL, NYSP inspires outstanding 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students to explore, invent, learn and think creatively. Throughout the program, young scholars engage in challenging coursework, gain a greater sense of independence, and experience a renaissance of learning.

  • Future of Habitat: No time to rest on past success

    Spencer County Habitat for Humanity has seen a busy year with the finish of a new home, the start of another house in Honduras and the hopes of land acquisition in the area.

    On January 18, Habitat for Humanity finished construction of a home in Highview Estates for Lisa Reynolds. While Reynolds has been living in the new home for months now, the group only recently put the finishing touches on the first completed house.

    Kalee A. Arza. Operating on suspended/revoked operator's license. Amended to no license in possession. Pled guilty. $20 fine.

    Stephanie L. Bettinger. Speeding 15 mph over the limit. Pled guilty. State traffic school, $143 court costs.

    State right-of-way mowing
