  • Bears toss back-to-back no-hitters last week

    Throwing a no-hitter in baseball is one of sport’s true rarities. The Spencer County Bears baseball team made it commonplace last week as Lance Shelton and Nick Vuick tossed back-to-back no-hitters in two shutout victories this past weekend.
    “Two no-hitters on back-to-back games was pretty awesome,” said Bears Coach Steve Slaughter. “I cannot recall a no hitter in over 13 years of coaching, much less two in a row. It’s a real confidence booster.”
    So too is Spencer County’s 5-1 record that includes five straight victories.

    With opening day of the statewide season just three weeks away, Kentucky turkey hunters can look forward to encountering gobblers of all ages this spring.

    On Thursday, the Spencer County High School Student Council traveled to Spencer County Middle School to speak to current eighth graders about becoming involved in high school and making a positive impact on the school and community.

    Caleb Fulkerson was awarded with the Spencer County High School Student of the Month award for February.  He was nominated by Peggy Pickett for helping with the 40 or more entries for solos/ensembles.  Without his help, the band would not have been so successful, Pickett said.

  • Two graduate from U of L

    Two Spencer Countians graduated from the University of Louisville after the fall 2012 semester:
    Lori Sue Henderson Kyser earned a Bachelor of Science degree, and
    Khoua Lor earned a Bachelor of Science degree.

  • Board of Education sets graduation date as May 31

    Graduation for the Spencer County High School class of 2013 will be Friday, May 31, at 6 p.m. at the Frankfort Convention Center, the Board of Education agreed Monday night.
    Superintendent Chuck Adams recommended the date.
    “Considering we have all but escaped the winter months with only two days of school missed as a result of inclement weather, I feel confident enough to have the [board] approve the graduation date of Friday, May 31,” Adams wrote in notes provided for the meeting.
