  • LETTER: Guilty before proof shown

    I thought our system is innocent until proven guilty. David Jenkins said he was not in or near the places the credit card charges were made that he is contesting. It tells me a lot about a person that wants to publicly condemn someone before all the facts are in. I have to question the reason that person is doing that, for what gain are they doing it. Do they have proof that no one knows about. I certainly hope people like that don’t serve on jury duty. The poor defendant would be charged guilty before the trial.

    Is it possible to be a Christian and yet not go to church? That seems to be one of the most common questions I hear in Spencer Co. I hope you can handle frankness because space does not allow easing into the subject. I’ll answer that question in stages. First, the New Testament never considers the possibility that someone could be devoted to Jesus and yet have little or no devotion to Jesus’ other followers.

    Cecil Gibbs. Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, .08 second offense. Sentenced to 7 days, credit for time served, enroll in multiple offender program, 12 month suspension of operator’s license, $878 fine and court costs. Operating on suspended/revoked operator’s license. Guilty.

  • Aquaculture Field Day

    Aquaculture enthusiasts will have an opportunity to learn more about the enterprise at a July field day in Frankfort.

    Kentucky State University and the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service are offering a free Aquaculture Field Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. EDT July 25 at KSU’s Aquaculture Research Center. Participants will have a chance to learn more about research regarding largemouth bass, koi, freshwater prawn, crayfish and paddlefish.

    Jakes event July 25

    The Salt River Strutters Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will be holding a Jakes Day Event on Saturday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The event will be held at 298 Plum Creek Court, Taylorsville.  We  will have a gun safety class, trap shoot, paint ball guns, archery, scavenger hunt and prizes.  All  children up to age 17 are welcome.   • Police uncover indoor pot farm

    Spencer County Sheriff’s department discovered a basement full of marijuana plants last Tuesday night near Mt. Eden – 165 plants with an estimated street value of $165,000.

    Deputy Gordon Miles, acting on a tip from a confidential informant, obtained a search warrant early in the day to investigate reports of illegal activity at 2375 Hickory Ridge Road. What he and other officers found that night was an elaborate greenhouse for cloning and growing pot.
