With two major road projects on tap for Spencer County in 2011, engineers from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet held a public meeting last Tuesday to give residents not only the first glimpse of the plans, but also the chance to voice suggestions for improvements.

“We are trying to build projects that fit the community’s structure,” said state highway engineer Mike Hancock. “We will take all public comments because good ideas can come from anywhere.”

Hayden Collins was recently named 5-year-old Player of the Week for the Northern Cal Ripken T-Ball League in Lexington. Hayden is the first baseman for the Reds and has been the key to many outs in the infield. His consistent catching and outstanding hitting ability led him to receive this honor.

 Hayden is the son of Eric and Lisa Collins of Lexington and the grandson of Todd and Susan Collins of Mt. Eden.

Light Up Salt River has become a tradition for families in Spencer and surrounding counties. Pack up the car with kids, lawn chairs and a few snacks, then head to Overlook Road just in time for the fireworks show.

Enjoy it this year, said committee member Kathy Spears, because it might just be the last.

“Donations just aren’t coming in like they have in the past,” said Spears. “Right now we have half of what we usually receive.”

Spencer County Grand Jury has indicted two Taylorsville residents on manufacturing methamphetamine.

Joshua L. Carney and Tina S. Carney, both of 4709 Little Union Road, each will be tried in court on two felony counts involving methamphetamine. Their first indictment is for manufacturing methamphetamine complicity, a class B felony that carries with it the possibility of 10 to 20 years in prison. Their second indictment of possession of methamphetamine is a class D felony and has the potential sentence of one to five years.
