    Crystal D. Miller (1981), speeding 16 miles over the legal limit, guilty, $175 in fines/court costs to be paid in installments/deferred payment.

  • Public Record: Indictments Dec. 20 and Jan. 10

    The following indictment was handed down by a Spencer County Grand Jury  Dec. 20 in Spencer Circuit Court:

    Dana M. Ingram, of the 200 block of Evelyn Drive, Taylorsville, on or about May 7, 2012, in Spencer County, committed the offense of forgery of a prescription for a controlled substance, when, with the intent to defraud, deceive, or injure another, she falsely made, completed, or altered a written instrument which is or purports to be or which is calculated to become or to represent a prescription for a controlled substance when completed.

  • Taylorsville Police Citations: Jan. 30 edition

    Taylorsville Police citations from Jan. 14 through Jan. 16:

    Mary L. Barnett, 45, of the 400 block of Washington Street, was cited Jan. 14 for no registration plates and failure to notify address change to Department of Transportation.

    Chaisty B. Nevitt, 37, of the 200 block of Jewell Vally Road, was cited Jan. 14 for operating a motor vehicle on a suspended or revoked operator’s license.

    Joseph A. Loosvelt, 55, of the 700 block of Normandy Station Road, was cited Jan. 18 for speeding 24 mph over the limit.

  • Indiana man stabbed, dumped at Elk Creek Grocery

    An Indiana man was apparently stabbed Wednesday afternoon in the northern part of Spencer County, then driven by his alleged attacker to the Elk Creek Grocery where he was dropped off as the suspect sped away.
    The victim is Jason Hill, 29, of Branchville, Ind.

  • AUDIT: Former clerk owes county over $73,000

    An audit of former Spencer County Clerk Judy Puckett’s final 11 months in office identified $8,399 that Puckett personally owes back to the county, bringing the total — including amounts from prior audits — that Puckett should personally pay back to $73,116.
    Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts Adam H. Edelen released the audit of Puckett’s last 11 months, from Jan. 1 to Nov. 30, 2011, last Tuesday.
    State law requires the auditor to conduct annual audits of county clerks and sheriffs.

  • Magnet wins seven press association awards

    The Spencer Magnet staff was honored with seven awards and two honorable mentions Friday night at the Kentucky Press Association awards banquet in Louisville.
    The staff took home one first place award, three second place awards and three third place awards, along with the honorable mentions.
    “I’m so proud of our staff,” said Editor Shannon Brock. “We tripled the honors we received last year, which says to me that we’re improving, and we strive for improvement every week.”

  • Friday’s freezing rain the culprit in at least 2 accidents in Spencer

    Freezing rain on Friday morning was responsible for at least two accidents in Spencer County, but apparently those accidents resulted in no injuries.

    Spencer County’s Lincoln Day Dinner set for Friday
    The Spencer County GOP is hosting its annual Lincoln Day Dinner Friday at the Spencer Christian Church Auditorium, 5720 Taylorsville Road.
    The reception starts at 6 p.m., with dinner at 6:30, then the speakers at 7:30.
    The speakers are U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, Congressman Thomas Massie and Agriculture Commissioner James Comer.
    There will also be an auction by Sheriff Buddy Stump.

    Kentucky State Police have released the identity of man who was stabbed and then dropped off in the Elk Creek Grocery parking lot on Wednesday afternoon.
