Flatliners, a men’s softball team, recently won the first step to Nationals E qualifying tournament in Louisville. Eight members of the Mt. Washington team are Spencer County residents. I am a mother with a broken heart. My only child (a son), whom I adored, became a victim of alcohol abuse at the age of 36 when he took his own life.

Bryan was a bright, intelligent boy, was a talented artist, his heart was filled with love and compassion and he had a wonderful sense of humor. Bryan was raised in church, he made a profession of faith at the age of seven and he attended the church’s Awana club where he achieved earning a Timothy trophy. What a bright, wonderful future this miracle from God had before him.

There’s plenty of talk these days about financial troubles.  Controversial solutions are being pushed, cutbacks are being made, and businesses are closing down.  Our nation, our state, and our local government are all seeking to expand care for those in need while at the same time cutting costs.  Even the Governor’s annual free Derby Day Breakfast included a price tag this year.
