  • The faces of Relay

    Tommy Akins walked around the parking lot of the Spencer County Middle School with a video camera rolling, catching the sights of little children playing, the sounds of music and people laughing, and capturing the mood that surrounded the annual Spencer County Relay for Life.

    For Akins, the event that raises money for cancer awareness and research has special meaning. It took on special meaning ten years ago when his wife Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer, and then again a year later when their daughter received the news that she was afflicted as well.

  • Thursday's brief storm makes mess

    A brief, but powerful thunderstorm rolled through Taylorsville last Thursday flooding streets and snapping tree limbs.

    Spencer County Dispatch said that trees could be found blocking roads in every direction. Like cardinal points on a weather vane, the roads of Yoder Station (north), Little Union (south), Lilly Pike (east) and Little Mount (west) were each reported to have large limbs impeding traffic.

  • SCHS track awards

    Although the 2009 track season is over, several members of the SCHS track team are still receiving honors. 

    • Erico Smith was named to the Second Team All-State for his 4th place finish in the 100-meter dash at AA State. 

    • Drew Abell, Charliann Garcia, Adrian Gregory, Christina Shawver, and Mike Williams were named to the KTCCCA Academic All-State Team by both qualifying for the State Meet and maintaining at least a 3.75 GPA.

    KY 2814:  Lane closures and delays possible between the Spencer/Bullitt County line and Whitfield Lane (mile points 0 and 1.4) due to roadway resurfacing.

  • Can you hear that? It's Kentucky Thunder

    Kentucky Thunder, a 14u traveling softball team out of Taylorsville, is off to a promising start this summer.   On June 13-14, they battled back from a 0-3 start to earn second place by knocking out the top team and moving on to the finals at the Future Stars of Sports Classic held in Ft. Knox.

    On June 20-21, they competed in the Bluegrass Blowout in Versailles.  They finished 3rd out of 15 teams with a record of 4-2.  They will be in Shelbyville next weekend, June 27-28 at the 3rd Annual Fastpitch LIT.

  • Barmore's basketball camp

    Coach Barmore’s 5th Annual Boys and Girls Basketball Camp is scheduled for June 22 through 26 at the high school. Students from kindergarten through 12th grade who are interested in attending should register now.   • Caution: cyclists ahead

    Taylorsville and Spencer County will host a portion of the 2009 USA Cycling Master Road National Championship when hundreds of cyclists plan to use a 7-mile stretch of KY 44-West for the timed-trial part of the event.

    For the second year in a row, amateur cyclists will converge on Louisville for seven days of competition in the road race, individual time trial, and criterium events. Louisville’s Cherokee Park will host the first three days of competition with men’s and women’s road races.
