    The following local student is a McKendree University Class of 2013 graduate:
    Darrell Keeling of Taylorsville, Master’s of Business Administration.

  • Jonsson named to honor roll at Brevard

    Brevard College in Brevard, N.C., recently named Michael Jonsson of Taylorsville to the honor roll for the spring semester of the 2012-2013 academic year.
    To be eligible for the honor roll, students must be enrolled full-time and earn a grade point average of 3.0 to 3.49 during the semester.

  • Three graduate from Campbellsville

    Two Taylorsville residents and one from Mount Eden graduated earlier this month from Campbellsville University.
    Jarrad Lewis Mattingly of Taylorsville received a Bachelor of Science in worship arts.
    Kayla Nicole Hood of Taylorsville received a bachelor of social work degree.
    Jonathan Craig Edwards of Mount Eden received a Bachelor of Science in health education and physical education/primary-12.

    William Shakespeare wasn’t around to experience the 1980s, but this weekend, Spencer County middle and high school drama students are mixing the decade known for big hair, bright colors and music with a play written 300 years earlier.

  • City makes no changes to proposed budget

    After three meetings full of questions and discussion about the City of Taylorsville’s budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year, the City Commission voted 4-1 Wednesday night to approve the budget as originally presented.
    Commissioner Beverly Ingram voted against the budget, while Mayor Don Pay and commissioners Jack Proctor, Kathy Spears and Ellen Redmon voted in favor of it.

  • Mount Eden man charged with attempted murder back in court

    A Mount Eden man accused of shooting at and pistol-whipping his girlfriend in March 2012 appeared in Spencer Circuit Court for a hearing Thursday.
    Benjamin W. Mobley, 59, of the 2100 block of Murphy Lane, was indicted in early December 2012 on charges of criminal attempted murder, second-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment.

    Marty Allen Harp, right, visited seven cast members of his favorite soap opera, ‘Days of Our Lives,’ recently in Atlanta. He is pictured here with Ari Zucker, who plays Nicole. This was a charity event for autism. Marty also spent time with friends he has known for many years as they all enjoy these events from year-to-year.

  • PHOTOS: Class of 2013 memorial walk

    Classmates, family and friends gathered at Ray Jewel Park Saturday evening for a walk-a-thon memorializing fallen classmates Chaz Goodlett, Shelby Bockting and Michaella ‘Mikie’ Monroe.

    Goodlett died in 2009 after an accident in which he fell off the back of a golf cart, causing severe head trauma. Bockting and Monroe both died in a car accident in early 2012 on Mike Brown Road.
