Raymond Revard, Jr. pled not guilty to charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence during an arraignment Thursday in Spencer County Circuit Court.

He stood quietly as Judge Charles Hickman formally read the charges related to the death of his wife, Lea Revard. Twice Revard glanced past the small barricade of police officers toward spectators in the courtroom. Among those watching the proceedings last week were Lea Revard’s mother, Marie McCoy, along with several other family members.

State Sen. Gary Tapp said Tuesday he would not be a candidate for re-election when his term expires in 2010.

“I’ve been there 12 years, and that’s pretty much enough,” Tapp said. “I want to spend more time with my business and with my family.”

I located here thirteen years ago from a wet county. Liquor stores are prominent. Beer and wine are now being sold in some grocery stores, restaurants, drugstores and convenient marts.

I am now hearing the same promotional message that I heard at our town’s council meetings, “we need the money”. It was all about the money regardless of what it will do to some people morally.

I am for Spencer County going wet. If they ever get the lodge at the lake going it will be dependant on alcohol-by-the-drink. The golf course would do much better if it were wet. If the non-drinkers think there is very little alcohol consumed in Spencer County, they would be surprised to know the reality of it. Many that enjoy a drink at home stock up on what they like. The others make small purchases and then when they run out, drive drunk to buy more and drink on the way home.
