  • Church Happenings — Week of April 24

    Waterford Church of Christ hosts revival
    Waterford Church of Christ will host a revival through Thursday at 7 each night. The focus of the revival will be “The Righteousness of God,” with guest speaker Burt Jones.
    Joe Stone is the preacher at the church, which is located at 5607 Mount Washington Road. For more information, call 477-2316.

    A Henry County runner slides under the tag of Spencer County catcher Brennan Noel during a recent home game. The Spencer County High School baseball team won three in a row last week. The Bears played at home April 15 and defeated Carroll County 14-4. They also defeated Nelson County 10-9 and Iroquois 12-1. The Bears were scheduled to play at Collins on Monday, at home against Bethlehem on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and at home against Gallatin County on Saturday at 1 p.m.

    The Spencer County High School softball team exchanges a traditional ‘good game’ with the Shelby County Lady Rockets after an 0-8 home loss on Thursday. The Lady Bears also fell at North Oldham on April 15 by a score of 11-12; at Paul Laurence Dunbar, 2-18; to Barren County, 0-10, in the Greenwood Border Battle; and to Apollo, 1-7, in the Greenwood Border Battle. The Lady Bears were scheduled to play Western Hills at home Monday, at South Oldham on Tuesday and at Anderson County on Thursday at 6 p.m.

    We live in the mecca of college basketball. Any doubt of that has been erased over the last two years as both the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville have claimed Division I NCAA titles and both teams look poised to compete for the same crown next year. On top of that, the Indiana Hoosiers have returned to making this region second to none for college hoops.

    Three students in Susan McGowan’s Latin classes received awards for their performance on the ‘2013 ACL/NCL National Latin Exam.’  Two of those students were recognized during Monday night’s Board of Education meeting. Robin Kosanouvong earned the silver maxima cum laude award, but was not present at the board meeting.
