  • Local shooting sports club fares well at state competition

    Spencer County’s 4-H Shooting Sports Club was right on target at this year’s 4-H State Shooting Sports Competition winning several awards. This two-day competition was at the Bluegrass Sportsman’s Club in Wilmore on Saturday, Sept. 15, and at the Kentucky Wildlife Management Center in Berea on Sunday, Sept. 16.  Spencer County 4-H had 17 members to compete in state this year.

  • Fall is the right time to assess winter hay supply

    The arrival of fall is an important time for livestock producers to assess their winter hay supplies. Kentucky forage and livestock producers made a lot of hay this September, and for much of the state, hay supplies should be adequate for winter feeding. However, in areas of Western Kentucky that experienced a longer, more extensive drought, some producers may have supply issues.

    The apple orchard has been picked clean and some have gone to our Courtney Farms Fruit CSA subscribers, some are now applesauce, some frozen and loads are now dried and sitting patiently on the shelf until the dead of winter (we are not allowed to eat them until all fresh are eaten.)

  • WEDDING: Shepherd, Green wed. Sept. 25

    Carla Shepherd and Bradley Green of Taylorsville were married Sept. 25, 2012, by a justice of the peace. The bride is a daughter of Carl Shepherd and Dee Metz. The groom is a son of Charles Ernest Green and Patricia Green. The groom is employed at American Roofing Contractors. The couple will reside in Taylorsville.

    Bears to face Atherton
    in homecoming game
    The Spencer County High School Bears football team will take on Atherton High School on Friday night at 7:30. This is the homecoming football game.
    Community members are asked to come support the Bears and support the student council by buying a chance in the 50/50 raffle.

    Misdemeanor:
    Carl L. Barnes Jr. (1978), public intoxication of a controlled substance excluding alcohol, guilty, $50 fine and $153 court costs, to be paid in installments/deferred payment.

    Robert Flynn (1966), third-degree criminal trespassing, guilty, $25 fine and $153 court costs to be paid in installments/deferred payment.
