  • Library to offer variety of fall programs for all ages

    The Spencer County Public Library has something for everyone. Check out some of the activities that are currently going on at the library:
    • Story Time is a great way to expose your child to reading and letter recognition.  There are crafts to encourage small motor skills and lots of physical play to get moving.  Join us every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. when school is in session for toddlers through first grade story time.  We welcome all ages to join in the fun of reading and learning on Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m.

  • BACK TO SCHOOL: School bus rules and guidelines

    The privilege of riding a school bus is conditional upon good behavior by the pupil. Any pupil who violates the rules or regulations for passengers on a school bus will be reported to the pupil’s principal. Continued unacceptable behavior may cause the pupil to lose riding privileges.

    • Respect other people’s property.
    • Wait in an orderly manner.

  • Commissioner addresses open meetings concerns

    The Taylorsville City Commission might be in violation of Kentucky’s Open Meetings Law – and one of its own commissioners is pointing it out.
    Commissioner Nathan Nation submitted a request in writing at a special meeting last week to ask the commission to correct two violations that occurred at a separate special meeting on July 19.

  • BACK TO SCHOOL: Armbands will help make sure students arrive home safely

    With the 2011-2012 school year growing close, the Pupil Transportation Department is once again striving to do its best in assisting students in boarding the appropriate school bus.  

    As in previous years, the transportation staff will distribute armbands on the evening children are scheduled for their open house.  There are two types of armbands that will assist with route information.

  • COLUMN: Parents: Use Parent Portal to check student grades, attendance

    Imagine it’s Friday night, and there is a big football game going on at the high school. Jimmy tells mom that he wants to go to the game but mom has told him that the only way he can go to special activities is if he keeps up good grades.

    Mom decides to go to the family computer and log on to the Parent Portal to see what Jimmy has been up to in school.

    Spencer County Schools will continue to use the SchoolMessenger program for the upcoming school year.  

    SchoolMessenger provides notification services for parental outreach, emergency broadcasts and attendance communications for all Spencer County schools grade K-12.
