There are many gardening tasks that must be done or are better done in the fall of the year. Things like cleaning up old plant material; fertilizing trees, shrubs and lawns; and protecting tender plants like hybrid tea roses and French hydrangeas. Time is almost up for large-animal veterinarians, vet technicians and technologists to apply for the 2012 Kentucky Large/Food Animal Veterinary Incentive Program.
To help alleviate shortages in the state’s large-animal medical workforce, this program offers financial assistance to qualified veterinary graduates who have school loans to be repaid. Applications are being solicited for just two more weeks. All paperwork must be postmarked by Dec. 1.
Spencer County resident Joe Paul Smith traveled to Chicago for the 34th running of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The 26.2-mile run was on Oct. 9. At the age of 62, Smith has now completed 37 marathons. Also running on this trip were Steve Hagan of Bardstown and Mandy and Eddie Benton of Lexington. All are members of the Kentucky Hill Runners.
First Baptist Church of Fisherville on Taylorsville Road is holding Upward Basketball signups for K5 through eighth grade boys and girls. Forms and registration fees may be dropped off at the church office between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays.
