  • What's Happening: Spencer County's community calendar

    New hours at

    Circuit Clerk’s office

    Due to continued state budget cuts, the Spencer County Circuit Clerk’s office business hours will be changing effective July 12.  New office hours will be as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday, 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. (4 p.m. to 6 p.m. driver’s license issuance only). The office will be closed each day from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. for lunch.

    Spencer Co. Circuit Clerk Becky M. Robinson apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

  • 'Tenth Inning' coming in September, sequel to 'Baseball'

    “Tenth Inning” – Ken Burns’ sequel to the monumentally successful “Baseball” – comes to us via PBS Television in September.

    “Tenth Inning” will chronicle “Baseball” 1993 to 2008, beginning where the original series left off. And yes, influence of performance-enhancing drugs will be addressed.

    The Muckdogs finished a great season June 19 with all team members receiving a trophy. The coach-pitch team includes: Tyler Lester, Bralen Spencer, Wade Hutt, Heavenly Redmon, Gracie Sandusky, Jacob Sandusky, and Jaiden Harris. Not Pictured are: Dalton Harrison, Michael Keown, Jackson Scott, and Kolton Scott. Coaches were: Jenny Banta, Kelly Hutt and Donna Lester.

  • SCHS football practice

     Any high school student wanting to play football during the 2010 season needs to attend the mandatory parent/player meeting 3 p.m.  Sunday, July 11 at SCHS. Conditioning will begin July 12 at 7 p.m. All athletes must have a current physical on KHSAA form to participate. Forms are available in the main office or online at www.khsaa.org. All information will be handed out at this meeting for the 2010 season.

     

  • Alleged cocaine boss from Taylorsvlile

    Michael A. McCarthy Jr., of Taylorsville, has been indicted with 23 other people in a Jefferson County court on several counts of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine.

    Authorities with the Louisville branch of the Drug Enforcement Administration believe that McCarthy, 28, headed up the $5 million cocaine operation. More than 200 pounds of cocaine was being moved from Los Angeles to Louisville on a monthly basis, making it one of the city’s largest drug rings, said DEA Assistant Special Agent Tom Gorman.

  • Proctor to re-run for city commissioner

    If Jack Proctor has his way, the Taylorsville City Commissioner will be serving his third two-year term after the November election.

    “I’m really fired up about what Spencer County has to offer,” said Proctor. “I have no axe to grind. I’m simply for keeping Taylorsville a nice city that folks want to live in.”

  • Grizzly football practice

    The first day of football practice for Spencer County Middle School will be Monday, July 12 at 6 p.m. All players must bring a copy of a current sports physical on KHSAA Form #4 (copies are available in the SCMS office or from Coach Bass). Equipment and lockers will be issued on this date. There will also be a parents meeting at 8:30 p.m. after practice.

    SCMS Grizzly Football is open to all rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.
