  • UK announces fall 2012 dean’s list

    The University of Kentucky recently released its dean’s list for the fall 2012 semester.  A total of 5,780 students, a record number for one semester, were recognized for their outstanding academic performance.
    To make a dean’s list in one of the UK colleges, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.6 or higher and must have earned 12 credits or more in that semester, excluding credits earned in pass-fail classes.  Some UK colleges require a 3.5 GPA to make the dean’s list.

  • Three earn fall 2012 dean’s awards at EKU

    Eastern Kentucky University announced 505 dean’s award recipients for the Fall 2012 semester.
    Local students honored with the dean’s award are:
    Marissa Beth Wente, of Fisherville, a senior communication disorders major,
    Ryan Steven Conard, of Taylorsville, a junior biology pre-medical science major, and
    Eliza Brooke Fahringer, of Taylorsville, a sophomore biology major.

  • Two local students make EKU president’s list

    Eastern Kentucky University announced that 1,224 students earned president’s list honors for the Fall 2012 semester.
    Local students named to the president’s list are:
    Marissa Beth Wente, of Fisherville, a senior communication disorders major, and
    Ryan Steven Conard, of Taylorsville, a junior biology pre-medical science major.

  • Colebank named to Bethlehem honor roll

    Tyler Colebank, a senior at Bethlehem High School, was named to the school’s A-B honor roll for the third quarter of the 2012-13 academic year.

  • Farm plate donations benefit local youth

    Spencer County 4-H has an opportunity to raise funds for Spencer County and statewide 4-H programs through the farm license plate voluntary donation program.

  • PHOTOS: Taking the time to care

    The Taylorsville Elementary after-school tutoring program was started in September by Spencer County Middle School student Marissa Allen. Allen, who is pictured in the bottom right photo, formulated the project as part of her participation in the 2012 Harvard University Leadership Academy.  Every Wednesday, eight middle school and six high school students gather at TES after school to offer participating third-fifth grade students homework help and assistance in all subject areas.

    Justin M. Back (1984), failure to wear seat belts, guilty, $25 fine to be paid in installments/deferred payment.

    Justin M. Back (1984), speeding 16 miles over the legal limit, amended to speeding 15 miles over the legal limit, guilty, $30 fine and court costs to be paid in installments/deferred payment; failure to wear seat belts, guilty, $25 fine.

  • Taylorsville Police Citations: Feb. 6 edition

    The Taylorsville Police Department issued the following citations Feb. 1-4:

    Nicholas J. Paddock, 24, of Morrison Avenue in Louisville, was arrested Feb. 1 on a bench warrant for failure of owner to maintain required insurance, first offense, from Jefferson County.

    Thomas L. Sego, 29, of 600 block Little Elk Road in Mount Eden, was cited Feb. 1 for no registration plates and no registration receipt.

    Timothy D. Terrell, 39, of Cornishville Road in Harrodsburg, was cited Feb. 2 for no registration plates and no registration receipt.
