  • Ky. communities unfriendly to walkers, joggers, cyclists

    Few Kentuckians live in walkable communities, according to the latest Kentucky Health Issues Poll for the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky.

    Only 32 percent of Kentucky adults said there are a number of destinations within an easy walking distance from their home, and only 47 percent said they live in communities with sidewalks or shoulders on streets that allow for safe walking, jogging or biking.

  • Study results are more than just a ranking

    Congratulations, Spencer County.  In the April 6 edition of the Spencer Magnet, Editor Shannon Brock reported the encouraging news that Spencer County was ranked 11th in overall health out of 120 of Kentucky’s counties according to the 2011 County Health Ranking study (Story is reprinted above.).

    This is a yearly study conducted by the University of Wisconsin Population Institute in conjunction with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

    Spencer County ranks as Kentucky’s 11th healthiest county, according to the 2011 County Health Rankings released earlier this spring.
    According to the rankings, compiled by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute in collaboration with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Boone County, in Northern Kentucky, is considered the state’s healthiest county while Owsley County, in Eastern Kentucky, is considered the least healthy.
