One of my favorite Christmas stories is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. In it we have a miser named Scrooge who not only doesn’t know the meaning of Christmas but goes out of his way to make everyone as miserable as he is. He is visited by a ghost and three spirits of Christmas, the past, present, and future. After this experience he is a changed man, Charles Dickens wrote in his epilogue that if there was anyone who could keep Christmas the whole year through it was Scrooge.

Spencer County Sheriff’s Department discovered an active meth lab in Taylorsville early Wednesday morning while investigating a report of a missing Winchester teen.

The female juvenile, whose name was not released because of her age, was said to have last been seen in a silver, compact car with Troy S. Waldridge, 37, of Taylorsville. Spencer County Deputy Gordon Miles said that he went to Waldridge’s Railroad Street home to locate the girl and was granted access to search the premises.

It is hard to believe that another year has almost gone by and 2009 is just around the corner. We have all been witness to many newsworthy events in our local community, state and nation during this past year, that will impact us all. On January 20 of next year our country will have a new president who will be faced with many difficult problems to overcome. We have all grown accustomed to hearing in the news about bailouts, job layoffs, increases in foreclosures and the drop in the stock market.

Deborah Kaye Montgomery celebrated her business move to a new storefront on Main Street with a ribbon cutting earlier this month.
