    The Old Gospel Barn, located at 11286 Louisville Road (Hwy 31E), Cox’s Creek, will be having a gospel sing Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Performances will be by Dennis Bowling, the Cumbos, and more. Admission is free. Plan to come and bring your family and friends.

    Senior center’s Ice Cream Social

    Multi Purpose Community Action Senior Center is inviting all seniors 60 years and older to their “Ice Cream Social” Friday, at 12:30 p.m. Come and join in on the fun festivities, and meet new friends along the way.

    Please RSVP Linda at 477-8296.

    The Multi Purpose Community Action Senior Center is the place to be for ages 60 and older. There is food, crafts, games, and education. Lunch is served daily. Contributions are accepted for meals but no one is denied a lunch due to inability to pay.

  • UK break-through may have come, but didn’t happen in Knoxville

    University of Kentucky fans may have witnessed a break-through moment last week. Says here, didn’t happen in Knoxville.

    Scene: Second half against Georgia. UK had a large second half lead when Jodie Meeks broke free on a three-on-two fast break. In front of family and friends, the native Georgian fresh off 54 five days ago was clear for a pull-up jump or drive to the hoop.

    Instead, Meeks slipped a bounce pass through traffic across the lane to a teammate coming from the left. Result: Michael Porter lay-up and one.

    Since its inception in 1909, the 4-H program in Kentucky has helped shape the state’s youth into productive, contributing members of society. Over the years, the organization has transformed to meet the needs of generations of young people.  As the 4-H program in Kentucky celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2009, now is a good time to reflect on the organization’s past accomplishments and plan for the future.

  • LETTER: Cemetery should respect flag

    My brother, Mark Robinson, was a veteran of the United States Army. He proudly served his country and defended it to anyone with respect and vigor. Sadly, he developed a rare form and cancer and died in 2001. We buried him at Valley Cemetery,Taylorsville, Kentucky, next to the Grandparents he loved so much.

  • Kentucky black bear hunt set for 2009

    In half a century, Kentucky’s white-tailed deer herd grew from 1,000 animals to a million today. Wild turkeys increased from about 800 birds to a quarter-million, and we are now home to 10,000 free-ranging elk, the largest elk population east of the Rocky Mountains. All are now hunted in Kentucky.

    A new big game species came closer to joining that list this week when legislators approved a pending regulatory amendment that will create Kentucky’s first black bear season in more than 100 years.
