  • SCMS girls soccer undefeated

    The SCMS girls soccer team remain undefeated after beating Henry County 6-0 April 19 and Oldham County 9-1 April 21.

  • HISTORY: The Laundry Bump lynching

    There are some mysteries in Taylorsville and Spencer County that could be solved by a few people who are still alive, because they know answers to some pressing questions.

    Wouldn’t it be beneficial to the knowledge of Spencer County history if they would write to Historic Pathways?

    For years, people have told me about a lynching that occurred on the side of the Spencer County Courthouse. I have never seen a published story about such an occurrence.

  • 2 million expected to pray for America

    Tens of thousands of prayer events are planned across the country on Thursday, May 6 to honor the annual National Day of Prayer.  In churches, parks and on courthouse steps, citizens will be praying for our nation, government leaders, media, military, schools, churches, businesses and families.

     The Kentucky General Assembly concluded its regular session in an angry, finger-pointing finale, with the House and Senate publicly criticizing each other for their failure to agree on a spending blueprint to guide Kentucky through the challenging financial times of the next two years.

  • Money still available for park trails

    Kentucky State Parks Commissioner Gerry van der Meer met with local horse owners Monday night to discuss what remains of a $100,000 grant that was intended for trails at Taylorsville Lake State Park.

    The grant was presented to Taylorsville Lake State Park by former Governor Ernie Fletcher in August 2007. Its purpose was to renovate existing trails and begin the expansion of the park’s recreational trail system.

    Now with a June 1 deadline looming, local trails activists are questioning how the remaining money will be spent.

  • 2010 Kentucky State FCCLA meeting

    The Spencer County Chapter of the Family, Career, Community Leaders of America had their 65th annual state meeting March 29-31. While at the meeting, members attended leadership seminars and listened to great motivational speakers. Members also competed in STAR Events at the meeting.

    STAR event winners included:

    • 3rd Place Sr. Parliamentary Procedure – Alex Poole, Charlotte Arias, Leah Spears, Tiffany Frost, Jayme Thomas, Samantha Barmore, and Heather Helton.

  • New business: Cox's Smokers Outlet

    New business Cox’s Smokers Outlet and Spirit Shoppe celebrated their opening with a ribbon cutting April 16. A grand opening celebration was held last Saturday.

    Cox’s features a wide selection of products, including liquor, wine, beer, cigarettes, imported cigars, picnic and party supplies, and fishing accessories.

    Their store hours are Monday -Thursday 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. until 10 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. and closed Sunday. Items can be purchased using the drive-thru by entering through the front of the building.

  • LETTER: Thank you Spencer County!

    April 24, 2010 we held our 2nd annual “Carnival for a Cure.” Despite all weather forecast we were blessed with 4 good hours of carnival fun! To God be the Glory!

    All proceeds made went to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Despite the storm, we still made $5,000!

     We couldn’t have done it with out all our sponsors, volunteers, vendors, the 4-H Trailblazers, Affordable Fun, Bounce Around, our fabulous DJ/MC Bobby Marples, musicians, Wendy Edwards, friends, and families.
