    Holiday Bazaar at First Baptist Church of

    Fisherville

    First Baptist Church of Fisherville, located at 15001 Old Taylorsville Road in Fisherville, will be having their holiday bazaar Saturday, November 14 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. for gifts, crafts, food and fun.

    Like Baseball umpires and SEC football officials, the NCAA enforcement division doesn’t expect Christmas cards from college coaches and players. But it scored one out of two with the University of Kentucky this calendar year.

    I am an educator in the Spencer County school system. Something I’m adamant about is instilling in my students the importance of reading and being informed about things going on in the world.

    I believe the Spencer Magnet does an excellent job of trying to keep its readers aware of the news in our area and beyond our community.

  • 'The Crucible' at SCMS this week

    Spencer County Middle and High Schools present Arthur Miller’s ‘The Crucible’.  There are about 50 students involved in this production both onstage and backstage.  Arthur Miller’s classic play about the witch-hunts and trials in 17th century Salem is a searing portrait of a community engulfed by hysteria. In the rigid theocracy of Salem, rumors that women are practicing witchcraft galvanize the town’s most basic fears and suspicions.

  • SCHS Dance team named season grand champions

    Ask any SCHS dancer to show you her new RING!  The team won the Jam Madness Championship rings.

    All teams’ scores from all over the country are tracked by JamFest over the entire season starting in August ‘08 and ending in May ‘09.  The team with the highest score wins the Season Championship.  

  • County creates 9-1-1 board

    Spencer County Fiscal Court will be getting a little expert advice when it comes to making decisions about emergency communication services.

    Magistrates approved the creation of a 9-1-1 Advisory Board Monday. The last time a similar committee existed was nearly 20 years ago.

    On the recommendation of Magistrates John Riley and Hobert Judd, fiscal court approved the 9-1-1 Advisory Board’s make-up and a list of duties that include evaluating the current dispatch service, communications equipment and making suggestions for improvement.

  • SCHS Dance team grand champs at HallowJam

    SCHS Dance Team won Grand Champion at HallowJam. The dance team defended their title from last year and won first place in Varsity Hip Hop, Grand Champion and the Judges Choice Award.  The team will travel to Floyd Central to compete on Nov. 7.   • State Auditor: Jenkins "likely" used card

    A state audit of Kentucky Association of Counties found that not only did David Jenkins contribute to the “self-serving culture” of the organization while president in 2008, but he was most likely the person who used his KACo credit card at two Louisville strip clubs and a Lexington escort service. 

  • What's Happening: Spencer County's community calendar

    Country Ham Breakfast

    Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #210 will be having an all-you-can-eat country ham breakfast from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m.  Saturday. The breakfast is $6 per person. Carry-out is available. Everyone is welcome.

    Lions Club meeting

    The Spencer County Lions Club  will be meeting Monday at Elk Creek Restaurant and Grocery at 7 p.m.
