  • LETTER: Politicking at Trick-or-Treat on Main

    I want to thank the Spencer Magnet and those that helped to organize last Friday’s Trick or Treat on Main Street. I know everyone enjoyed the evening and seeing the happy faces of our community’s young people certainly made it all worthwhile.

    The opportunity to participate in events like these and to get to know our friends and neighbors better makes living in a small town so enjoyable.

  • LETTER: America Recycles Day Nov. 15

    Today is Wednesday, November 5, 2008. We, the people, exercised our right to vote yesterday on probably the largest scale ever. Today we have a new President, and a lot of new faces in our State and Federal Governments.

    Win or lose, our lives will continue, with the economy being our main issue. This week is the last week of our fall litter abatement drive, and regardless of our political leanings, the trash needs to be eliminated and, as much of it as possible, recycled.

  • Election results for Spencer County

    Spencer County voters turn out in force Election Day to select candidates from U.S. President to county coroner. In all, 8,253 people went to the polls which translates to a 72 percent voter participation.

    Below are the results for Spencer County:

    U.S. President

    John McCain (R)– 5,378

    Barack Obama (D)– 2,519

    Ralph Nader (IND)– 73

    Chuck Baldwin (CON)– 41

    Bob Barr (LIB)– 31

    Mitch McConnell (R) – 4,811

  • McCain, McConnell top picks in student mock elections

    Spencer County students who took part in the statewide mock elections last week may have had differing opinions on the issues facing Americans, but the majority agreed on who should be taking the top spot. Many of the students voted for John McCain for president and Mitch McConnell for senate.

  • Paintball vandals caught

    Three local men have been charged with criminal mischief after police received reports that vandals were shooting paintballs at passing cars, parked vehicles and road signs.

  • Meet of Champions, Spencer County cross country competes

    The SCMS cross country team attended the KTCCCA Meet of Champions on November 1 in Lexington. The meet, which is the state championship event for both elementary and middle school students, is divided into both 6th grade and under events, and 7th and 8th grade events.
