  • LETTER: Lady Bear pride

“1,2,3 PRIDE!” is something the Lady Bears basketball team has been saying for years. We say this because we have pride in ourselves, each other, and most importantly our team.

  • Louisville rides to front of the pack

Extending a line of thought in this space last week, think Bluegrass Stakes. Last prep for Derby’s run for the roses.

See the favorites turn for home. Thinning the pack, West Virginia bumps Pitt, leaving Jamie Dixon’s contender to drop back, wait for another day. Up on the lead UConn and Syracuse exhaust themselves on each other. Between horses and rail Florida State boxes North Carolina in behind the front runners

Then, as Cawood Ledford used to call, “... and here they come to me now!”

  • State weight lifting champs

The Spencer County High School Weight Team won the State AAA Championship held at Central Hardin High School on March 14. This is the weight team’s first state title.

“We are truly happy with our performance today,” said Coach Wes Napper. “Our hope is to take the success that we have built in the weight room and translate that into wins on Friday nights.”

  • LETTER: New memories being made at the Sanctuary

On the second Saturday and fourth Friday monthly our neighbors and friends John and Judy Shircliff open their doors to the community.

They are the proud new owners of the old building across from Smitty’s, as we all call, it on Main Street in Taylorsville.

  • LETTER: Project Graduation, for the safety of kids

I am writing this letter to inform the Community of Taylorsville that April is Alcohol Awareness Month. Spring is just days away now, high school seniors are winding down and thoughts now turn to celebrating those achievements and many will feel pressure to drink alcohol during prom and graduation night activities.

  • Sticker shock

Students from Spencer County High School, along with the Shelbyville and Taylorsville Police Departments, pasted MADD stickers on cartons of beer at local liquor outlets last Wednesday.

The intent behind the stickers, sponsored by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers), is to deter the purchase of alcoholic beverages by persons under 21 years old, said Jenice Prather, a teacher at Spencer County High.

  • LETTER: Time to spiff up Spencer County

The statewide Spring cleaning week, March 21-28, gives every county the opportunity to spruce up their county for the anticipated summer visitors. We want Spencer County to look spiffy to encourage people to tell their friends and family how great Spencer County is. We have some prime areas for viewing nature here in our county. It is a shame if the view is obstructed by trash and litter.

  • SCMS February students of the month

SCMS February students of the month: Allison Russell, Zack Lewis, Cameron Little, Kayla Murphy, Danielle Eisenback and Tevis Dezern.

  • FAITH FOR TODAY: If it’s not broken, don’t fix

The title of this article is true…. sometimes…. but not all the time. For example, if you don’t have a head- ache and are feeling fine you probably wouldn’t take medicine for a headache or if your phone is working fine you wouldn’t take it to a repair shop. But there are some things in life that you would “repair” or do some regular maintenance or preventative maintenance on. For example, it is a good idea to change the oil and filter in your car regularly. It is a good idea to brush your teeth regularly.
