    I would like to thank the Spencer Magnet on last week’s story concerning the possibility of Taylorsville Lake State Park getting a world class disc golf course.

    Disc golf is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and is rapidly gaining popularity worldwide. Disc golf can provide several benefits to this community because it promotes health and fitness, encourages recreation, and provides a healthy alternative to physical contact sports.

    The recent tragic heating fire in Ashes Creek Community has left our community saddened and questioning. How could this happen here? We often hear of fires on television or in the newspaper, but we never imagine that one will hit so close to home.

  • Holiday happenings: Christmas on Main

    “It’s all about the kids. Jesus loved the little children,” said Spencer County Judge David Jenkins. “Seeing their faces light up, even if you are an old scrooge. That’s what it is all about.”

    With so many Christmas activities planned for Christmas on Main Street, there should be no problem for even the scroogest of scrooges to get into the Christmas Spirit. Parents will have the opportunity to see their children’s eyes brighten time and time again this Friday.

  • BBB advises how to avoid dangerous toys this season

     While toy manufacturers have increased product testing in order to reduce the number of unsafe toys on the market, unfortunately, dangerous toys continue to be sold in the U.S. BBB is offering advice to holiday shoppers to help them avoid purchasing unsafe toys, as well as guidance for parents if they find a recalled toy in their child’s toy box. 

  • Spencer County 8th highest in state unemployment rates

    Unemployment rates rose in 112 Kentucky counties between October 2007 and October 2008, fell in six counties and stayed the same in two, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.
