Not often is there a surplus of federal funds to assist those in need.
However, the Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency, which serves Bullitt, Spencer and Shelby counties, has money appropriated for its weatherization program.
Now, Kim Embry is looking for applicants to take advantage of the funding.
Embry, in addressing a recent Bullitt Fiscal Court meeting, said there is around $400,000 to be spent over the three counties. The funds must be spent by March 2012.

The Spencer County Sheriff’s Department has expanded its staff in recent months, adding two full-time deputies, one special deputy and two court security officers to its staff.

Edgewater Resort owes the Spencer County Fiscal Court two years worth of rent, and the county is making every effort to get paid.
The fiscal court voted Monday night to authorize County Attorney Ruth Hollan to take all legal actions necessary to secure the payments and arrears.
In making the motion to do so, Judge-Executive Bill Karrer said the resort has an agreement to pay the county $24,000 each year in rent and hasn’t paid in two years. That brings the total amount owed to $48,000.
