  • Police: Be wary of con artists

    Tis’ the season... for shoplifting, break-ins, scammers and other types of scrooges attempting to steal folk’s holiday spirit. With the economy on the way down, crime is sure to be on the way up according to Spencer County Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Bennett.

    Taylorsville Police Chief Toby Lewis said they have had reports of shoplifting and a quick-change artist in Taylorsville in the last week. Not only are these incidents occurring in town, the county officers have seen an increase in crime as well.

  • Holiday cheer in Mt. Eden

    The community of Mt. Eden has a long-standing tradition of coming together to celebrate Christmas in Mt. Eden.

    “It has been going on as long as I can remember,” said Shana Milburn. “And I am 26 years old.”

    For decades, these folks have gathered to share food, music from local churches, and crafts while then visiting with Santa.

    This is the first time for mother/daughter team Angela and Shana Milburn to organize the event. Although both said they were amazed at the amount of support coming from their neighbors.

    “We may not have large corporations backing us,” said Becky Wilson of the Family Resource Center, “But our main resource is this community, and they come through.”

    It is time for Shop-With-a-Cop again. Spencer County Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Bennett takes charge of getting the funds and the adults together while Wilson and the others from the Family Resource Center get the children together for this annual event.

    Without the community’s help, these kids may go without ,according to Wilson.

  • Bears begin season with exhibition game

    Tip-off Tuesday was last night and the Spencer County Bears and Lady Bears were both in action.

    It’s going to be an interesting basketball season with the ladies expecting to contend and the boys hoping they can surprise.

    There are newcomers expected to play a big role on both teams, and returning starters who will be asked to step up even more than they did last year.
