  • LETTER: Public input sought from levee commissioner

The levee protecting the Taylorsville downtown (old town) area from the flood waters of Salt River and Brashear’s Creek since 1948 is under a federal mandate to spend between $300,000 and $400,000 to remain accredited. Accreditation prevents Taylorsville from being in a flood zone and eligible for federal assistance in times of disaster.

  • LETTER: Thanks to Dr. Dill and staff

To Dr. Gerry Dill and his staff, thank for all the help over the years. Your expertise, knowledge, and friendship, contributed greatly to our success here on the farm. It was always a welcome sight to see you coming up the road to help out in veterinary emergencies.I can think of dozens of times if you had not come we would have lost that cow.
Big thanks to Ann, too, as she taught two of our children and helped mold them into who they are today.
I believe in karma, so your goodwill you have generated is certain to make your retirement the best it can be.

  • LETTER: Give thanks, give hope, give the gift of life

As we gather with family during the holiday, many of us wish to give back and help others. Often, we struggle to find the time and means to do so. However, this Christmas, there is something everyone can do that costs nothing, takes less than a minute, and gives hope to thousands of children, adults, and their families, in need.

  • LETTER: Are you on Santa’s Team?

A dear friend posted an article on Facebook about a mother who explained to her growing, inquisitive child about being on “Santa’s Team.” It was a sweet article that every parent would appreciate. Have you ever thought about the vast reach of Santa’s Team? In fact, I cannot remember when I wasn’t a member of Santa’s Team. It is one of my joys in life.

  • LETTER: Support conservatives in upcoming election

The race for Senate is heating up. Matt Bevin is up in the polls and Senator McConnell is calling conservative patriots traitors and say they need a punch in the nose. The senator has been in DC for 30 years and he has done more than punch us in the nose. He has been right there helping the decline of our nation.
There was a man that ran on the communist party ticket for president for years and years. Then about 30 years ago, he said he no longer needed to run. The Democrats had accepted the communist platform.
    Moving closer to home.

  • LETTER: Liquor sales on Sunday
  • LETTER: Keep the Lord’s day holy
  • LETTER: Don’t be fooled by McConnell

Sen. Mitch McConnell, as usual, let his anti-worker attitude show through by supporting a national right-to-work bill. I’m not surprised as he is paid big bucks by companies that don’t want to pay their employees good wages and benefits.

  • LETTER: Today’s problems have an answer

Where did we go wrong and how can we fix it? Speaking with 66 years of experience, it seems to me that our society and the world is only a shadow of what it once was. Whether watching the news or reading the paper it is becoming more apparent that the goodness of the people, which we once took for granted, is becoming more and more unheard of.

  • LETTER: Spencer is fortunate to have Sheriff Stump

Once again, Sheriff Buddy Stump has proven his ability to run the office of sheriff in a safe, professional and efficient manner. The recent meth bust has made Spencer Country a safer and more pleasant place to live. The entire county owes him a big “thank you” for weeding out and removing criminals who make our lives more dangerous.
