• LETTER: Help sought with floodwall

To the property owners in the Spencer County Kentucky Levee, Flood Control and Drainage District No. 1, this is a an appeal for help. I am, at this time, working to prevent our floodwall from receiving an unacceptable rating.
Please call 502-817-3990 with questions and offers of help.
Tell your fellow property owner to call. They may not see this request.

    Robert Smith
    Floodwall Commissioner

  • LETTER: Fiscal Court works together for the community

In my lifetime, I have served on many local, state, national and even international boards. With that experience, I would like to share a little insight that should bring a falsehood to an abrupt halt.
There are those who think our current Fiscal Court members do not like each other or that we do not get along. During all my years of experience, I have never worked with a group of individuals who are more compassionate about doing the right thing for their constituents than our current Fiscal Court members.

  • LETTER: Reader calls out Karrer, newspaper

The editorial published July 11, with no author listed, seems to be lacking in complete fair and impartial journalism. The quote “While we applaud the judge for trying to keep the court on task and to stop those who wish to publicly berate and belittle our public officials...”  Are you joking with the readers?
Bill Karrer has called the Taylorsville mayor’s actions stupid and referred to specific taxpayers and officials as cowards, terrorists, bullies, etc., and The Spencer Magnet gives Karrer a free pass.

  • LETTER: Resist politically correct intimidation

Intimidation can be a powerful weapon. Tyrants and terrorists have long-employed intimidation in their arsenal to not only keep subjects and opponents in line, but to silence even the smallest hint of resistance.

  • LETTER: Health care law won’t bring about ‘end of days’

While flipping through my town paper and enjoying the stories about the county fair and advice on students returning to school, I then came across a little piece about the apocalypse.
Nope, not those loony people who believe in the Mayan Calender or Y2K survivalist, but some man who goes with the old fire and brimstone approach that (somehow?!?) the Supreme Court ruling on the health care law will bring about the end of days.

  • LETTER: A message to elected officials

Those of you who are elected officials of Taylorsville have been chosen to represent us, the citizens of Taylorsville. We are counting on you to be a voice for us concerning all issues that may affect us.

  • LETTER: McConnell column was ‘party rhetoric’

Form letters not allowed? Mitch McConnell’s reaction to Obamacare is a form letter.
It is the Republican Party rhetoric or speaking points. Mitch McConnell’s statement “common-sense,” step-by-step reforms, is the RNC’s speaking points. The only problem they can’t figure out is which foot to take the first step with. In other words, they have no plan.
As far as tax hikes, the taxes under the Obama Administration are the lowest in 30 years.

  • LETTER: Thanks for ‘giving hope’

  • LETTER: Lapp’s columns are ‘excellent’; marriage is commitment-centered

I want to applaud  Dr. John Lapp’s articles that appear in our Magnet. Each one is excellent.
With my 35 years in the field of mental heath and 58 years of marriage (with eight children), I feel my judgment is more that just a casual opinion regarding his last column on love and marriage.

  • LETTER: With Chuck Adams, our schools’ future is bright

As a former student, teacher, school administrator and school board member, our school system has always been a source of pride. Things have not always been as they should, but currently things could not be better, nor could the system be in better hands because of its leadership.
With Superintendent Chuck Adams receiving the state’s highest leadership award, “The Spirit of Leadership,” each and every parent and citizen should take great comfort in the fact that our system is headed in the right direction.
