On June 4 and 5, our state park hosted a triathlon at the lake. They rented the space to them over a year ago, which is great, but the downside is that the lake had since been flooded.
This is no one’s fault, but since there was a weather emergency due to the flood, there should have been other arrangements for the start of the race.  
Instead, they took up all the parking at the only open boat ramp leaving no parking for the boaters.
I personally watched as children cried because parents had to tell them they could not get on the lake.

For those of you who don’t know, Randy Wise is retiring as the director of Spencer County Parks and Recreation on June 10. He has supported youth sports in our community for years and has given his time and devotion to the kids of Spencer County.
My family, like many others in the community, has grown up with Randy and considers him part of the family. I hope the “powers that be” realize this is a very important job in Spencer County and hire someone as passionate. Youth sports are a very important part of this community.

The class of 2011, teachers, staff and administration would like to thank all who contributed to the senior project this year.
We had a total of 169 mentors throughout the year that offered our students opportunities such as: assisting in delivering babies, sitting in on surgeries of animals and humans, gathering evidence from corpses, andassisting with reporting on fashion on Millionaire’s Row at the Kentucky Derby.
Over the entire day of exit interviews we had a total of 49 volunteers interviewing seniors.

The recent coverage concerning the funding of the Taylorsville-Spencer County Economic Development Authority has left me very concerned and confused. I am very concerned because I feel we certainly need an entity whose primary purpose is to help attract and retain businesses in Taylorsville and Spencer County. I am confused because of the various reasons given and the methods that are being used to justify ending funding for EDA by the county.
