Too often we read of nothing but negativity in our community. We have lived in Spencer County for nearly 13 years, but here recently there has been a surge of community like I have never seen before in Spencer County supporting our Bears basketball team. Community members are rallying behind each other. I know some may say it is only a basketball game, but it is much more than that.

I would like to thank Bill Karrer for taking over the budget of the county clerk. The fees collected by this department from the residents of Spencer County should be used for the good of the entire county, not for the benefit of the county clerk and staff.

I am a 26-year-old resident of Spencer County. I have lived here all my life. As an adult, I have purchased older property in Taylorsville and questioned the weathered property lines. I called my dad for best advice on identifying where my markers are. He referred me to Curtis Ochs, saying, “He’s the man to see for any surveying questions. He knows this county front and back.”

If you were not at Spencer County High School on Saturday night, you probably missed one the most exciting boys basketball game in the state this year, and for sure in many years in the Spencer County Gym. It was billed as a “white out” and most everyone was dressed in white. We also passed out white “ hand towels” for fans to wave. By 5:30 p.m. or so the whole Spencer County side was full. That is 90 minutes before game time. The game was a sell out and 80 percent of the fans were from Spencer County.
