Recently, I was an inpatient at a local care facility in Taylorsville for rehabilitation after I fell, broke my hip and had follow-up surgery. Though I would have preferred not to have had the physical experience, I made many new friends at the care facility, friends who impacted my life in a positive way and made a difficult stretch much more tolerable.

I will never forget the first article I wrote on the church page. I wrote it on hell. The day after it came out a person called and told me, “I read your article in The Spencer Magnet and it has been years since I heard anything like that, but I needed to hear it and I bet there are young people in our church that have never heard it, but they need to.”

Guard Duty, a local veteran and military support organization, wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude for the success of this year’s Veterans Honor Ceremonies that took place on Nov. 3.
Guard Duty takes great joy in honoring the men and women who served in our United States Armed Forces defending our freedom and liberties. It is because of their sense of duty to our country that we have the freedom of press, the freedom of speech, religion, of assembly, the right to bear arms, and so much more that we often take for granted.

As I am writing this letter on Election Day, I do not know the outcome of any of the elections that are taking place across this great land. However, there is one thing that I am absolutely sure of. The political climate and tone in our country has to change if we as a people have any hope of solving the serious problems that face us, not only across the United States but also here in Spencer County.
