Today's Opinions

  • LETTER: Grateful for help with veterans event

Last Saturday’s weather for Guard Duty’s fourth annual Veterans Celebration was glorious but not as wonderful as the support that came out to honor our veterans from our community!

  • LETTER: Progressive Dinner a success

I would like to personally thank everyone that worked so hard to make the Progressive Dinner such a success!  Hats off to the volunteers for their tremendous effort.

  • GUEST COLUMNIST: Kentucky’s obligation is to children

Few things are as clear-cut or urgent as the need to get Kentucky’s children off to a healthy start in life.

One, whether you’re a parent or a politician, it’s a moral obligation. I firmly believe that. Two, Kentucky’s future depends on our ability to create a talented, inquisitive and productive work force.

One year ago, my administration launched an aggressive plan to tackle, head on, one of the biggest hurdles to our children’s and our state’s future: lack of health insurance.

  • LETTER: Suggestion for Magnet

I am an educator in the Spencer County school system. Something I’m adamant about is instilling in my students the importance of reading and being informed about things going on in the world.

I believe the Spencer Magnet does an excellent job of trying to keep its readers aware of the news in our area and beyond our community.

  • LETTER: Don't force religion on others
  • LETTER: Voters deserve their questions answered

As citizens, we all have the right to ask questions of our elected officials.  We also have the right to the expectations of being given an honest reply.

It is of my opinion those that are not willing to give an honest answer have no right to run for office.

I have a question that we should all think about: what does the federal government, the state government and our own Spencer County government all have in common? Could it be that they are all financially broke?

  • LETTER: SCHS thanks Hometown Pizza, Dairy Queen

Spencer County High School would sincerely like to thank the Taylorsville Hometown Pizza and manager for supplying pizza coupons for our 1st nine weeks perfect attendance awards.  Please see the 10-28 issue of The Spencer Magnet for the list of these 139 students.

We would also like to thank the Taylorsville Dairy Queen and manager Bob Gill for donation of blizzard coupons for students on the A honor roll.

  • LETTER: Oversupply, corruption biggest problems for dairy industry

I would like to commend freelance writer Laura Clark for her article on dairy farming. When Ms. Clark asked what I thought the biggest, single problem was facing the dairy industry it was very difficult to answer because truthfully, nobody knows. The two most common schools of thought are oversupply and corruption.
