  • MATTER OF OPINION: Get answers before the wet/dry vote

    On October 20, voters will have two choices when it comes to the special-election to legalizing alcohol sales in Spencer County – yes or no.

    Initially, the issue seemed a straightforward one. Either voters will be for or against converting the county’s alcohol status to wet. But if anything has been gleaned in the past six months, it is that this is no simple issue.

  • LETTER: Vote no to what?

    Has anyone seen the yellow signs that have begun to plague our beautiful county? “Vote NO” they say.

    My question is, vote no to what? Vote no to the transportation of alcohol into Spencer County? Vote no to the consumption of alcohol in Spencer County?

    I don’t think that people really understand the meaning of the vote. The vote is only about selling alcohol in Spencer County.

    For the last three weeks I have read with interest the articles in the Magnet concerning the Wet/Dry vote.  After the first one I thought, well the next one will be more balanced.  After the second one I thought, I really ought to write a letter to the editor.  But after the last article, I simply had to respond.

  • LETTER: Stump driver trainer of year

    Congratulations to Mitzi Stump who has been awarded State Driver Trainer of the year by the Kentucky Association for Pupil Transportation.

    She was selected by the Directors of Transportation in our state. She will also be KAPT’s quest at the annual fall conference in Lexington September 29 at the Crown Plaza Conference Center.

    I want to personally thank her for her dedication to the Transportation Department and helping to keep riding the bus safe for our kids. Excellent job Mitzi!
