  • LETTER:Politicians need health care reform

I keep hearing about all the protests at the Town Hall Meetings all over the  country about the Health Care Reform. But no one has brought up the fact that if the President’s Health Care Reform is so good – how  come all the politicians have their own Health Care Package for Life?  If the Reform is going to work, then the President himself and all politicians should have to be a part of it – it should affect them as much as the American people – then see how fast it would get through Congress!

  • LETTER: "The devil made me do it"

Hopefully to bring closure to a sad, uneventful and insulting saga I am in continued contact with the F.B.I and Scotland Yard to help bring KACo’s “master and mysterious identity thief” to justice. The only problem is both agencies say this “phantom of the imagination” does not exist.

My investigative sources tell me no identity thief would be dumb enough to take a felony prison rap of ten years just for the pleasure (I Guess) of watching a bunch of naked women dance on a pole.

  • LETTER: Democracy at work

Do you feel it in the air? Can you smell it? Most of all can you hear it?

  • LETTER: How about some honest journalism?

I am amazed you printed Carl Turner’s letter in last week’s Magnet. I began becoming politically aware more than twenty years ago. I’ll give an example from a different newspaper.

“Police gun down man who allegedly shot officer.”

  • LETTER: Building on park's field day

Spencer County Parks and Recreation Department would like to thank all the sponsors who helped to put on our first-ever field day. We hope to build from this event and continue to host events for our youth.

A special thanks goes to: Peoples Bank, Citizens Union Bank, Spencer County Insurance, Spencer County Farm Bureau Insurance, Dollar General, Creekside Florist and Gifts, Shelbyville Walmart, Dairy Queen, McDonald’s, Hometown Pizza, Snappy Tomato Pizza, Cindy’s Consignments, Plum Creek Rentals, and all the kids who participated.

  • LETTER: Try a different party

What a charming ad by Spencer County Democrats – with the two cute little girls on horseback – purporting that they are the caretakers of “community and family values”.  I wish it was true.

  • GUEST COLUMNIST: Don't cash that check

With the worsening economy, an increasing number of Kentuckians are being victimized by fraudulent, unsolicited business offers commonly originating outside the United States.  County attorneys throughout Kentucky are reporting an upswing in this type of activity.  In one case, an elderly victim was defrauded of $1.1 million by a Canadian source before the scam was discovered and stopped.

The most common of these scams begins with the receipt of an unsolicited cashiers’ check in the mail.

  • LETTER: Thanks for helping with benefit

The Long family would like to thank all family and friends that came out to support the benefit for Thomas Long.

Your prayers and support have been greatly appreciated.

We love you and God Bless.
