  • MATTER OF OPINION: Turn off the noise

    The Opinion page is a little light on letters this week. Not that The Spencer Magnet didn’t receive any. In fact, we have been emailed many endorsement letters for the dozen or so candidates who will appear on next Tuesday’s ballot. But you won’t see them in today’s paper.

    In a tradition established by one of our past editors, The Spencer Magnet has a policy to leave all the “VOTE for ME” letters off this page on the Wednesday before Election Day and just give readers a break from all the political noise.

  • LETTER: Travis is best candidate for school district 4

    I am writing to encourage you to vote for Scott Travis as your representative on the Board of Education in the November election.

    Having personally known Scott Travis for several years, I am of the opinion that he is the best candidate our district has in this race.

    Scott has kept his finger on the pulse of our school district through his service on the SCMS School-Based Decision Making Council and being an active participant at the monthly Board meetings.

  • LETTER: Media trying to control election

    As we look at our election on November 4, we see the news media trying to control the outcome.

    Most of us know we have a two-party system with a one-party news media.

    Not many years ago, I listened to this bunch of garbage they threw out until I realized they were the ones that were going to destroy our country.

    I ask you to look at Governor Sarah Palin. What a breath of fresh air she brought to McCain’s campaign. She shook the news media up so that they had to come up with something to beat her down.

  • LETTER: Pulling for McCain

    When I vote next month, I’ll be pulling the lever for John McCain in the presidential race. I’m not completely sold that he’s the bastion of conservatism that I believe our nation is in dire need of, but my vote will be more of a tool of opposition against two forces that have combined to create a very real danger to the very heart of America.

  • LETTER: Good time had by all at pig roast

    The Spencer County Republican Party recenty held its annual Pig Roast and “a good time was had by all.”

    This year, we chose the Spencer County Fairgrounds for the location. This choice certainly added to the success of the event! Everyone who attended agreed that the fairgrounds was a perfect venue and made for easy preparation and access.

    On the day of our event the Kentucky Quarter Horse Association was also utilizing the fairgrounds for their trail ride.
