  • LETTER:Spare families from the heartbreak of alcohol

I am a mother with a broken heart. My only child (a son), whom I adored, became a victim of alcohol abuse at the age of 36 when he took his own life.

Bryan was a bright, intelligent boy, was a talented artist, his heart was filled with love and compassion and he had a wonderful sense of humor. Bryan was raised in church, he made a profession of faith at the age of seven and he attended the church’s Awana club where he achieved earning a Timothy trophy. What a bright, wonderful future this miracle from God had before him.

  • LETTER: A really different view

When something like this Wet/Dry issue comes up, I often hear that we should begin weighing the pros and cons of the matter but today I want to give you a different perspective on the idea of pros and cons.  First off a cons point of view that has come to my mind is the golf course problem, do you really want some people getting tipsy as they hit a ball around the golf course.  I mean is a slurred scream of fore really enough warning to realize you’re in the line of fire from someone swinging  a deadly nine iron with a wobbly sense of direction?  Can you imagine th

  • LETTER: Reader wants police patrols

I just want to give my opinion of the Spencer County Sheriff’s department. I live out in the county and it is so hard to get anyone to come out here and do anything. You can call them and report a problem and they just let it blow by. I do not understand why this is happening. Are they that shorthanded that they can not cover the whole county like they are paid to do?
