Today's Opinions

  • LETTER: Nobody important

I admit it up front:  I’m nobody important.  I’m just a wife and mother of two boys and a girl, living life to the best down here in beautiful Spencer County, Kentucky.

  • BLOG UPDATE WED.: From the front lines at the RNC

    WEDNESDAY

We slept in a bit after a late night. Lynn went out with some delegates to a Styx concert and arrived back at the hotel at some unearthly hour. In the morning (late morning) I went to the Minneapolis Convention Center to see and help with the relief efforts for the hurricane. The bicycle donation ride by Humana was up and going and the volunteers were busy at the convention hall assembling relief packages. It gave me a great feeling to watch people helping other folks unconditionally.

  • LETTER: School board is not listening

I attended the August school board meeting and was very disappointed and angry over the outcome.

A ruling was handed down by Jack Conway stating that it was illegal to have a closed meeting to discuss the evaluation of our superintendent.  Yet, instead of accepting that, some of our board members have decided to use money which could be well spent in our schools, to fight this ruling.  And they have the nerve to say they are doing what is right for our children.

  • BLOG UPDATE THURS.: From the front lines at the RNC

    THURSDAY

We had to get up early for a Kentucky Delegation breakfast and commemorative photo session. It was fun to see everyone even though it was so early! We realized that this would be the last time we'd all be together. There was another luncheon today and then the last convention session with John McCain's speech!

  • LETTER: Great job Magnet staff

Most of the time when I write a letter to the editor, it’s really kind of directed to the readers. This letter is actually to our esteemed editor, Robin Bass. I want to give credit where credit is due, so, Robin, make sure you publish this so that everyone gives you the credit you so richly deserve.

Robin, I really wanted you to know that I think you and your staff are doing an outstanding job with each and every newspaper that you publish.

  • LETTER: Drivers need to slow down

I live on Main Cross, the street that runs from Garrard Street through Main Street in downtown Taylorsville. I want to take this opportunity to express my distress about our local neighborhood streets concerning the safety of not only our children, but the public in general.

  • LETTER: Tax dollars are a terrible thing to waste

After reading the last two issues of the Spencer Magnet in regards to the school board spending valuable taxpayer dollars on meaningless political arguments, I was infuriated and felt the need to express my strong opinion.
