Moorman named to UC dean’s list

In recognition of their academic performance, the Office of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs has announced the students that have been named to the University of the Cumberlands dean’s list for the 2013 spring semester.
The spring 2013 honoree from Taylorsville is Marissa Moorman.
To be eligible students must have achieved a grade of “A” in convocation while maintaining a minimum cumulative scholastic standing of 3.5.

Several Spencer County Middle School musical groups recently competed out of state at amusement parks in Ohio. The SCMS band and chorus received first place in their respective classifications and also took overall top ensemble. Sixth-graders traveled to King’s Island and seventh- and eighth-graders competed at Cedar Point.

Wakefield Baptist plans Bible school
Bible school at Wakefield Baptist Church runs through Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 each night.
The church is located at 5517 Taylorsville Road.
The theme for Bible school will be Bible Heroes.

Kaufmans to sing at Christian Crossing
The Kaufman Family will sing at Christian Crossing Lifeline Center during revival Friday through Sunday.
Services on Friday and Saturday are at 7 p.m. The service on Sunday is at 11 a.m.

Meeting reveals new extension...

Construction of the new county extension office is still not complete approximately two years after groundbreaking. Plans are now in the works to install dividers into the large meeting room to create smaller, individual meeting spaces for separate groups.
A divided meeting room was in the original construction plans, but the ceiling was supposed to be able to support suspended walls that would separate the room. When the building was constructed, however, that structural support did not exist. Now, construction is set to begin to remedy the situation.

Dustin A. Bielefeld, 18, of Mt. Everest Drive in Louisville, was cited May 27 for no registration plates and no registration receipt.

Octavio Vasquez, 44, of Minors Lane in Louisville, was cited May 27 for no operator’s-moped license and failure to produce insurance card.

Elvis Galindo, 22, of Village Drive in Shelbyville, was cited May 27 for failure to wear seat belts.

Three months after deciding to “shelve” a memorandum of understanding from the Spencer County Sheriff’s Department and Spencer County EMS regarding the agencies’ radio frequencies, the City of Taylorsville and Police Chief Toby Lewis decided to take the MOU off the shelf and sign it.
Sheriff Donald “Buddy” Stump asked to be put on the city’s agenda for its regular June meeting and addressed the commission last Tuesday evening.
