More than $27 million in asphalt rehabilitation projects have been awarded by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet as the spring construction season gets underway.
The first asphalt projects of the season are distributed over 45 counties.
“Maintaining our roadways is one of the most important responsibilities of the Transportation Cabinet,” Kentucky Transportation Secretary Mike Hancock said. “Well-maintained roads are safer for motorists. They’re also important for economic development and community growth.”

Relay for Life team fundraising events - March 15 edition

4-H Relay for Life team selling doughnuts
The Spencer County Relay for Life 4-H team is selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts to benefit the annual cancer research fundraiser. Glazed doughnuts are $7 per dozen and chocolate doughnuts are $8 per dozen. There are also other Krispy Kreme items available for purchase. The last day to order is Thursday. Anyone wishing to order should email Darla Browning at darla.browning@spencer.kyschools.us.

Andrew Temple was selected as the April Student of the Month at Spencer County High School. He was nominated by his Spanish teacher, Whitney Reno, for his outstanding improvements over the course of the last semester.

Jonsson named to honor roll at Brevard

Brevard College in Brevard, N.C., recently named Michael Jonsson of Taylorsville to the honor roll for the spring semester of the 2012-2013 academic year.
To be eligible for the honor roll, students must be enrolled full-time and earn a grade point average of 3.0 to 3.49 during the semester.

Three graduate from Campbellsville

Two Taylorsville residents and one from Mount Eden graduated earlier this month from Campbellsville University.
Jarrad Lewis Mattingly of Taylorsville received a Bachelor of Science in worship arts.
Kayla Nicole Hood of Taylorsville received a bachelor of social work degree.
Jonathan Craig Edwards of Mount Eden received a Bachelor of Science in health education and physical education/primary-12.

Mount Eden man charged with attempted murder back in court

A Mount Eden man accused of shooting at and pistol-whipping his girlfriend in March 2012 appeared in Spencer Circuit Court for a hearing Thursday.
Benjamin W. Mobley, 59, of the 2100 block of Murphy Lane, was indicted in early December 2012 on charges of criminal attempted murder, second-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment.
