City makes no changes to proposed budget

After three meetings full of questions and discussion about the City of Taylorsville’s budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year, the City Commission voted 4-1 Wednesday night to approve the budget as originally presented.
Commissioner Beverly Ingram voted against the budget, while Mayor Don Pay and commissioners Jack Proctor, Kathy Spears and Ellen Redmon voted in favor of it.

Mount Eden man charged with attempted murder back in court

A Mount Eden man accused of shooting at and pistol-whipping his girlfriend in March 2012 appeared in Spencer Circuit Court for a hearing Thursday.
Benjamin W. Mobley, 59, of the 2100 block of Murphy Lane, was indicted in early December 2012 on charges of criminal attempted murder, second-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment.

SCHS track team has 16 qualify for state

The Spencer County track team competed at regionals on Thursday at North Oldham High School and had a record of 16 athletes qualify to compete at state.
State competition will be held Friday at the University of Louisville.
Those qualifying for state and their event are:
Gavin Boykin - 4x200 team
Shawn Boykin - 100 meters, 4x200
Cameron Curran - 4x800 team
Robert Currie - 4x200 team
William Currie - shot put
Stephen DeWitt - 4x800 team
Chase McIntosh - 4x200 team
William Morrow - 4x200 team

Burns named boys’ basketball coach

Jason Burns was scheduled to meet with players and parents Monday night during his informal introduction as the new boys’ basketball head coach at Spencer County High School, but he’s already been making the rounds.

What is more enjoyable than spending a Saturday at the park with your family? Walking through the woods and enjoying the warm spring air seems like the perfect way to spend a weekend. Add in pulling invasive weeds and it describes a recent weekend I spent with my daughter.

Traffic:
Ruben R. Rodriguez Garcia (1974), speeding 13 miles over the limit, guilty; no operator’s/moped license, amended to no license in possession, guilty; $209 in fines/fees to be paid in installments/deferred payment.

Timothy K. Englert (1986), speeding 18 miles over the legal limit, guilty, state traffic school, $143 court costs to be paid in installments/deferred payment.
