When we mentioned that Dr. J. Floyd Furnish of Spencer County delivered quintuplets, our information was a bit skimpy.
Since then, we’ve learned more of the unique delivery.
It happened Feb. 11, 1914 in a small two-room house on Plum Creek near Waterford. It was the first delivery of quints in the United States.
The parents were Gaither and Bertha Drury: Gaither was from Spencer County, but Bertha’s family originated from the eastern Kentucky mountains.
