A Voice-Tribune reader recently asked about the worms in her chestnuts; well, I am afraid I am in the same boat. We have chestnut weevils. I love our nut grove for a multitude of reasons: it shelters our meat chickens that are ranging freely in its shade; the sheep graze and even munch on fallen nutmeat. In other areas we collect pecans and Chinese chestnuts among other offerings. The pecans are clean as a whistle this year but the chestnuts are a bust.

Taylorsville Elementary School’s PTA sponsored a special visit recently from Coyote Chris with Silly Safari to show students about animals and the great things they can do. He also came back the same evening to present to the parents and kids at the school’s first PTA meeting.

The hundreds of times I have been doing counseling with a couple who expressed this sentiment at the beginning of their counseling program reminds me of one of the most ridiculous advertisements of a product being offered: “just three easy payments,” “just three easy steps,” etc. How do they know that? And furthermore, if I am stupid enough to believe that offer, I should be ashamed of my use of my God-given intelligence if I buy that product or that offer.

Dear Confused,

When in your life did you feel “I don’t need anybody” or  “I can do it all myself”? When did this happen in your life? What took place to develop this thought?
Now, some of you had to fend for yourselves when you should have been able to depend on others to help you. This can happen when adults in your life have virtually abandoned the responsibility to care for you, so you were forced to grow up and survive by taking good care of yourself, or you may not have survived.

I saw on the news where this one state had a seat belt law that you had to buckle up your dog, and if you were caught with your dog not buckled up it was a bigger fine than it would be if you were caught with your child not buckled up. When I grew up and someone mistreated their children people would say that they are treating their children worse than you would treat a dog. A lot of dogs now are treated better than a lot of children.
