Many companies, organizations and individuals, along with several students, their parents and family members are responsible for making the 2010 Project Graduation a success.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be talking about some important issues in the City – from Blockwatch neighborhoods and motorized wheelchair visibility, to the new sewer expansion project and the Floodwall/Houston Court project. 

Last summer I met with residents of Pin Oak, Highview, Early Wyne, and Old Town about establishing Blockwatch neighborhoods.  The support for this concept was overwhelming.

We doubt anyone will ever forget the ice storm of 2009, and most assuredly ,people will be talking about this summer of 2010, when the oppressive heat is affecting everyone. There are days that you walk outside and it feels like the sun is on fire.

We would imagine that most residents in Spencer County are blessed with air-conditioning, but there are those who have to endure the heat and humidity, without this luxury. There are also those whose occupations require them to work ‘outside’ in these conditions.

Though they weren’t celebrating just yet, officials at BP announced Thursday a well cap had temporarily stopped the thousands of gallons of oil from leaking into the ocean.

As of Friday afternoon it was still holding and officials announced the pressure was steadily rising. A higher pressure means more oil is staying inside the well and less is leaking out. Underwater views show the temporary success as no oil can be seen leaking. But officials aren’t ready to pop the cork on the champagne just yet and for good reason.

I look forward each week reading your newspaper because of your strong support for the Christian faith. Our country and its leaders are getting further and further away from our founding fathers fundamental faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. And this week what a thrill it was to see on the front page of the Spencer Magnet newspaper, people being baptized in the Salt River. This is a tremendous testimony for what your newspaper stands for and a witness to its readers.

Big box stores are trying to get me excited about their back-to-school sales, but – like many people – I’m still trapped in a summer daze.

My husband, Kenny, and I were in last week’s edition of the Spencer Magnet on the front page.

It is with great regret that I send you this news but we need to make the people of Spencer County and Taylorsville aware that we will not be able to host a Native American festival this year.

I would like to thank everyone for their attendance at my celebration of life party. Also, I would like to thank the community for all their  prayers and love during my time of illness. God bless you and thank you.

Growing up in the Spencer County community and being raised in such a large and loving family, has truly given me many wonderful memories and experiences. Thank you!
