I notified Rep. Brad Montell in 2008, concerning loopholes I found in KRS 132.023 and .017. Better known as House Bill 44. These loopholes were directly related to the operation of any charter government. The loopholes pose an enormous threat to taxpayer's rights, afforded in House Bill 44. Montell and I quietly tried to resolve the threats in the 2009 legislative assembly, however, opposition was found. Who? Why?

The American Cancer Society and the Spencer County Relay for Life 2009 committee would like to thank the entire community for their great contributions to this year's event. Because of your efforts through donations, caring deeds and involvement this experience was once again successful. Our total was close to $20,000. Our totals were down a bit but not our spirits. We will continue to fight against cancer in anyway we can. Relay celebrated its survivors and remembered those who lost their battle.

I have sat back and read the charges against David Jenkins in our newspaper for weeks now. What happened to “innocent until proven guilty”? I suppose that doesn’t apply with our editor of the Spencer Magnet. According to the on-line poll a couple of weeks ago, this is embarrassing to our county. I agree with that, so please Ms. Bass let it go.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in the Light Up Salt River Festival.

First and foremost, I would like to recognize the committee members for all of their planning and hard work. They are Carolyn Shields, Kathy Spears, Janet Barnett, Donna Forg, Leigh Ann Stratton, Sharon Thomas, David and Kristen Martin, and Troy Klaber. Without our team work this wouldn’t happen every year.

I am writing to express my opinion of the Spencer County youth football program.

At the ages of 5 to 7, with both boys and girls playing, I believe that the game should be about teaching the children sportsmanship, football fundamentals and the kids generally having a good time

I guess I am wrong.

The head coach of the Mighty Mites stated at the first practice that not all the kids will get a chance to play. He stressed winning over all else.

I thought our system is innocent until proven guilty. David Jenkins said he was not in or near the places the credit card charges were made that he is contesting. It tells me a lot about a person that wants to publicly condemn someone before all the facts are in. I have to question the reason that person is doing that, for what gain are they doing it. Do they have proof that no one knows about. I certainly hope people like that don’t serve on jury duty. The poor defendant would be charged guilty before the trial.

I have watched more local television news reports this past week than in recent years and I can honestly say that I’m dumber for it.

When it comes to feeding that news-junkie habit, there’s nothing that compares to the written word – and not on some flickering computer screen either. Even when I do want to read something on an Internet news site, I have to print it out.

It goes without saying that the current activities of our county judge has created a cloud of sadness that covers the legacy of our community statewide.  One would think that we are the laughing stock of the Commonwealth, but no one is laughing.

 If there is any taxpaying citizen in Spencer County that is not 100 percent angry, that person needs to be committed to an insane asylum.  I will refer to Judge Jenkins as Mr. Jenkins from this point in time because I can not fathom addressing him as judge.  He no longer deserves that distinction.
