Reader praises Magnet staff

Dear editor,

Born 75 years ago on Main Street, in Taylorsville, my father would sit me in his lap and read The Spencer Magnet to me from cover to cover until I was old enough to read it for myself. When raising my own children, in the same house where I was born, I also read the paper to them.

Yes, all local newspapers are special to the community, and those that occupy them the same. Years ago, Lynette Mason, who was publisher, retired from the paper, and the life blood of our community disappeared. I felt that without her, it was no longer the paper of the past, so I dropped my subscription.

Only recently have I renewed my readership. Under new ownership, the leaders chose Jeff Sopland as the lead reporter, and his work has brought back a new, and better life to our local print. The people of our community speak kind words with regard to Mr. Sopland’s work.

You will see Mr. Sopland at almost every event, and the hours he works must be tiring. Mr. Sopland has become the face of our local community, and not enough can be said for the work that he has accomplished.

In closing, Mr. Sopland, I thank you for the future of our community.

Sincerely

Ronald “Woodie” Cheek
