    Sporting clays event
    Ducks Unlimited will host its Summer Sporting Clays Classic on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 9 a.m. at the Merwin Ray Shooting Range in Eminence.
    The event style is similar to a golf scramble, but on a shooting clays course.
    Prizes will be awarded and an entry fee of $100 is required. The fee includes 18 stations with four targets per station and lunch.

  • Allen Dennis Memorial Scramble set

    A golf scramble to benefit The Allen Dennis Scholarship Fund is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 17 at Tanglewood Golf Course in Taylorsville. The scramble gets underway with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
    The fee for the scramble is $50 per player or $200 per team.
    Allen Dennis was an Anderson County youth who drowned in 2001 at age 9. Scholarship funds have been distributed over the last five years to benefit young people in Anderson, Spencer and Shelby counties.

    Lady Bears to host girls basketball camp
    The Spencer County Lady Bears are hosting a girls basketball camp for second- through eighth-grade girls only July 22-24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.
    The camp will be held at Spencer County Middle School and is $35 per child.

    SCMS cross country tryouts set for next week
    Spencer County Middle School cross country tryouts will be July 15-18 from 6 to 8 nightly at the middle school.

    Lady Bears to host girls basketball camp
    The Spencer County Lady Bears are hosting a girls basketball camp for second- through eighth-grade girls only July 22-24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.
    The camp will be held at Spencer County Middle School and is $35 per child.

  • SCHS boys basketball team to host camp next week

    The Spencer County High School boys basketball team is hosting a camp July 15-19.
    The camp is for boys in first through eighth grades.
    Players in grades 1-5 will be grouped together; players in grades 6-8 will be grouped together.
    All players will attend camp from 8 a.m. to noon. Players are asked to report early on Monday to get checked in.
    Activities include organized warm-up, offensive and defensive stations, guest speakers, 3-on-3 play, 5-on-5 play and more.
    Camp cost is $60 if paid in advance and $70 if paid at the door.

    SCMS football practice starts July 8
    Spencer County Middle School football practice will begin July 8 from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. Players are asked to bring their cleats and tennis shoes.

    Travel team tryouts
    The Kentucky Bomb Squad Travel Team is looking for highly competitive travel players.  The age group is for 8- to 9-year-olds with a date of birth between May 2004 and May 2005.

  • Cornerstone Christian to sponsor basketball camp

    Cornerstone Christian Academy will have a basketball camp beginning Tuesday, May 28, and ending on Friday, May 31, for both boys and girls. The camp will be led by Cornerstone Christian Coach Jason Bradshaw and other current high school and college coaches. Each day there will be a special guest speaker. The morning session is 9 to noon for children entering first through fifth grade.  The afternoon session is 1 to 4 for children entering sixth grade through entering 12th grade.   • SCMS cross country team earns first trophy

    Several members of the Spencer County Middle School Cross Country team didn’t relax during fall break — they attended the Shelby County Middle and Elementary Invitational Meet on Oct. 16.

    Every SCMS team member that attended medaled in the meet. As a team, the boys earned second place, and received the first ever trophy for the cross country team.

    Upcoming events include the KTCCA Meet of Champions in Lexington on Saturday.
