  • Cornerstone Christian to sponsor basketball camp

    Cornerstone Christian Academy will have a basketball camp beginning Tuesday, May 28, and ending on Friday, May 31, for both boys and girls. The camp will be led by Cornerstone Christian Coach Jason Bradshaw and other current high school and college coaches. Each day there will be a special guest speaker. The morning session is 9 to noon for children entering first through fifth grade.  The afternoon session is 1 to 4 for children entering sixth grade through entering 12th grade.   • SCMS cross country team earns first trophy

    Several members of the Spencer County Middle School Cross Country team didn’t relax during fall break — they attended the Shelby County Middle and Elementary Invitational Meet on Oct. 16.

    Every SCMS team member that attended medaled in the meet. As a team, the boys earned second place, and received the first ever trophy for the cross country team.

    Upcoming events include the KTCCA Meet of Champions in Lexington on Saturday.

    game scheduled

    The Spencer County High School blue-white football game will be Friday at 7 p.m.

    Admission is $3 for adults, and children ages 5 and under will be admitted free.

    SCHS football team
    to host camp for youth

    The Spencer County High School football team is hosting a camp for youth in first through sixth grades Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with registration at 8:30 a.m.

    The camp cost is $25 per participant, which includes a camp T-shirt and lunch.

  • Cooperative Dove Field Program enrolling until March

    Kentucky farmers can help carry on the hunting tradition and earn much-needed extra cash by enrolling in the Cooperative Dove Field Program. Enrollment is currently underway and will continue until mid-March.
    “Under the new Voluntary Public Access and Habitat Incentive Program, increased payments are available for 2012,” said Rocky Pritchert, migratory bird biologist for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

  • Adult basketball league sign-ups

    Adults interested in participating in a Spencer County Parks and Recreation basketball league are asked to contact Parks Director Brian Spencer as soon as possible by calling 502-376-9850.
    The league will play on Sundays between 3 and 7 p.m. at Spencer County Middle School.
    Spencer said his goal is to have enough participants to field eight teams.

  • Youth football association board meeting planned

    The next Spencer County Youth Football Association open board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. at the game field.

  • Cornerstone Christian plans basketball camp

    Cornerstone Christian Academy in Shelbyville will host a basketball camp from Monday through next Thursday.
    The camp will be led by former college coaches and former college and high school coaches. Each day there will be a special speaker. This year’s featured speaker will be former Kentucky Wildcat and Boston Celtics player  Rick Robey. He will be there to share about his days playing with Larry Bird and Pete Maravich.
    The camp will teach fundamentals from some of the best coaches in the area.

  • Cross country tryouts set for Monday

    Tryouts for Spencer County middle and high school cross country will be Monday, 7 p.m., at the high school track.

    The next Spencer County Youth Football Association open board meeting is scheduled for July 27 at 6 p.m. at the game field.
