  • Homers do harm as Bears fall to...

The ball was flying out of the yard during Monday night’s opening round of the 30th district baseball tournament in Taylorsville. Unfortunately, most of the round-trippers were hit by Shelby County as they rolled to a 15-6 victory, ending Spencer County’s season.

Blake Lambdin got the start on the mound for the Bears, and early on kept the Rockets grounded to one run in the first two innings.

  • Lady Bears fight to the end

The Spencer County Lady Bears came up one run short in their bid to upset top-seeded Anderson County, losing 2-1 in a drama-filled seventh inning.

Trailing most of the way, the Lady Bears used pitching and solid defense to keep things close, as Emily Cole baffled Anderson batters most of the evening.

However, the Anderson County pitcher was equally effective on the mound, and the Lady Bears were staring at elimination heading into their final at-bat in Monday night’s opening round of the 30th District Tournament, hosted by Spencer County.
