  • Lady Bears close regular season...

The Spencer County Lady Bears have one week left in the regular season and it’s a last chance for them to bounce back in time for postseason play after struggling through a three-game losing stretch.

  • Bears win 4 of 5

Spencer County Bears Head Coach Jacob Barmore probably feels like he’s been on a three-month long roller coaster this season. His Bears started off 8-2, then experienced a four-game losing streak and a couple of three-game losing streaks.

  • COLUMN: Breaking the mold

If a break-the-mold sports story turns your head the way it does mine, meet Donovan McCoy.
With a name like that, he has to be a quarterback, right? McCoy passed for almost 3,000 yards and 32 touchdowns in his only year as a starter at Fort Thomas Highlands. He ran for 22 more and the Bluebirds finished another perfect season with a Class 4-A title trophy.
Donovan McCoy, naturally, was chosen all-state, first team, probably homecoming king, most likely to succeed and a host of other accolades.
    Here comes the best part.

  • COLUMN: Three-star prospect...

    Glass half full.
In the aftermath of an NFL season made tiresome by a media herd enthralled with Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and the latest bulletin on Michael Vick’s knee, fans got a Super Bowl worth the price of a television commercial (almost).
But more, the MVP headed to Disney World owns a name straight out of casting for Godfather IV. Joseph Vincent Flacco.
From Audubon, N.J., Flacco broke quarterback records for the Fighting Blue Hens at the University of Delaware. Then he paid his earn-your-spurs dues in the NFL for a decade.

  • Frankfort takes down Lady Bears

An ugly outing on Monday combined with uncooperative weather in the following days made for an unpleasant week for the Spencer County Lady Bears who were riding high after a three-game winning streak.

  • Bears fall to 10-12

While heavy rains came late Tuesday night, the Spencer County Bears were mired in a shooting drought a few hours earlier as they experienced a night of cold-shooting on their way to a 65-56 loss at Kentucky Country Day.

  • PHOTOS: Bears place 10th at...

On Saturday, the Spencer County High School wrestlers competed in the Kentucky High School State Duals. Spencer County took 10th at the State Duals, beating Central High School 58-24. The Bears lost to Central earlier in the year 60-24. ‘[It was a] great day for the boys,’ said coach Joe Speer.
