  • Wrestlers finish among top at...

    Pictured are Spencer County Elementary School students Colton Price, left, and Seth Thompson.  Both are on the Fern Creek Youth Wrestling Team and wrestled at the state tournament last weekend at the Frankfort Civic Center. Price won first place in his weight bracket. Thompson finished third place. Fern Creek as a team finished 4th place.

    The Spencer County Middle School cheerleaders had an exciting season that ended Jan. 29.

    Amid the hoopla of Bears basketball, the Spencer County High School Dance Team is making a name for itself, too.

  • WHAT A CATCH!

    Spencer County fisherman Brian Raisor recently caught this huge Asian carp at Taylorsville Lake. Much to Raisor’s surprise, a lamprey — an eel-like species — was attached to the fish. According to Raisor’s mother, Mary Raisor, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife sent the lamprey on to Campbellsville University for further study. Neither species is a lake native and the KDFW is investigating further.

    For Morehead State (in), Louisville, Bellarmine, Georgetown, and at this writing, possibly Western Kentucky, drum roll, please.

    Morehead will wait to see if its next foe is Kansas, Duke or Ohio State.
    The best tournament could be the Big East and UofL is a major reason why.

  • Miller leads Bears to victory...

    Last year as a freshman, Brandon Miller had both the basketball and his team’s season in his hands in the closing seconds of the Bears’ 30th District tournament against Anderson County and his team down one point. His buzzer-beating shot missed the mark, ending an otherwise successful season on a down note.

    It’s hard to watch the hoopla surrounding the Super Bowl, the politics behind the BCS or the madness that is March to realize that big-time sports is big business that often puts the dollar ahead of the joy of the game.

    The Spencer County Lady Bears saw their season come to an end Wednesday evening when they fell to Collins in the first round of the 30th District Tournament, 52-29.

  • Bears take 30th district title,...

    The Spencer County Bears made history Saturday night by winning the 30th District Basketball Tournament with a 55-49 victory over Collins.


    It was standing room only in Spencer County's gym as the Bears pulled away in the third quarter following a 21-21 tie at halftime, to secure the school's first distirct title since 1984.

    Sophomore guard Brandon Miller paced the way with 19 points and was named the tournament MVP as the Bears continue a magical season.

  • Let's all do a little fancy...

     The Spencer County High School Dance Team had a successful “Taylor Swift” dance clinic.  The clinic had 94 student participants in this exciting event.  Each child received a t-shirt and cowboy hat.  Students performed their dance routine at the SCHS boys basketball game on Feb. 8.
